Premium Tropical Indoor Houseplant Potting Soil Mix

Give your tropical houseplants a potting mix made specifically for their growing needs! Whether you're potting a new plant, moving a root-bound houseplant into a larger container, or replacing old, compacted growing media, Soil Sunrise Tropical Houseplant Potting Soil Mix combines quality ingredients in a convenient, ready-to-use blend for a wide variety of container-grown tropical plants.

Specially designed for tropical houseplants, this blend combines moisture-retaining ingredients with perlite, pine mulch, and horticultural charcoal to support drainage, aeration, and a healthy root environment. Natural worm castings add an organic component to the blend, while lime helps balance the formulation, creating an indoor houseplant potting mix that’s ready to use straight from the bag.

Key Benefits:

  • Plant-Specific Formula: Specifically formulated for tropical houseplants and their unique growing needs.
  • Balanced Drainage & Moisture: Peat moss and coconut coir help retain useful moisture, while perlite, pine mulch, and horticultural charcoal help create air space and support drainage throughout the mix.
  • Pre-Blended & Ready to Use: Use this tropical houseplant potting soil straight from the bag with no need to purchase, measure, or mix several separate soil components.
  • Quality Ingredients: Contains peat moss, perlite, coconut coir, pine mulch, worm castings, horticultural charcoal, and lime.

How Much Tropical Houseplant Potting Soil Do I Need?

Choose the bag size that best fits your tropical houseplants repotting project. The actual amount needed will vary depending on container size, root-ball size, and how much existing soil is removed.

2 qt: Small houseplants, individual repotting projects, or several small containers.
8 qt: Medium tropical houseplants or multiple smaller repotting projects.
12qt: Larger houseplants, larger containers, or multiple repotting projects.

Why This Tropical Houseplant Soil Blend Works:

Pine Mulch & Perlite: Help create air space throughout the mix while supporting drainage.
Peat Moss & Coconut Coir: Help retain moisture while maintaining a lighter growing-medium structure.
Worm Castings: Add a natural organic component to the blend.
Horticultural Charcoal: Adds porous material that contributes to the mix's overall structure.
Lime: Helps adjust pH as part of the overall formulation.

As some reviews said, this mix holds on to way too much moisture and stays very wet (yes all my pots have drainage holes). I repotted several plants using this mix and they all got waterlogged and started dying. I quickly repotted again by mixing in 50:50 some orchid bark mix from the same seller. The larger plants are slowly recovering but I lost two of my smaller plants to drowning. On the plus side, I have not experienced mold or fungus gnats so the mix is clean.

I’m still fairly a beginner in caring for plants. After some research, I knew I needed a well draining soil for my houseplants.I mixed 2 quarts of the House & Tropical with 2 quarts All Purpose Orchid and it was the perfect mix for what I was going for. Both parts seem like great quality and packaged well.I was able to repot all of my plants (2-6in hoyas, 1- 3in philodendron) with 2 more quarts to store for later use.

1. Choose the Right Container
Select a clean container with adequate drainage holes and enough room for the plant’s root system.

2. Add Potting Mix
Place a layer of potting mix in the bottom of the container, adding enough so the plant will sit at the proper height.

3. Position the Plant
Gently remove the plant from its existing container, loosen compacted roots if needed, and place it in the center of the new container.

4. Fill Around the Roots
Add additional potting mix around the root ball, filling the container while leaving a small amount of space below the rim. Gently settle the mix without packing it too tightly.

5. Water & Allow to Drain
Water thoroughly after potting and allow excess water to drain completely. Continue caring for the plant according to its specific watering, light, and growing requirements.
