Premium Orchid Indoor Houseplant Organic Pine Bark

Give your orchids an airy growing medium designed for their unique root systems! Whether you're repotting an established orchid, potting a newly acquired plant, or creating your own custom orchid mix, Soil Sunrise Organic Orchid Potting Bark provides a convenient, ready-to-use pine bark growing medium for orchids and other epiphytic plants.

Made from mature Loblolly and Southern Yellow Pine bark, this natural orchid bark provides chunky structure that helps create air space around orchid roots while allowing excess water to drain. Use it on its own as an orchid growing medium or combine it with other amendments such as horticultural charcoal or perlite to create a customized orchid potting mix.

Key Benefits:

  • Ideal for Orchids: Specifically formulated for Phalaenopsis, Cattleya, Dendrobium, Paphiopedilum, Oncidium, and other epiphytic orchids, and their unique growing needs.
  • Supports Drainage & Aeration: Pine bark creates an open growing-medium structure that allows air to reach orchid roots while helping excess water move through the container.
  • Ready to Use or Customize: Use the orchid bark by itself or combine it with other potting-media ingredients to create a custom blend for your plants.
  • Quality Ingredient: Made with natural pine bark sourced and produced in the USA.

How Much Orchid Potting Bark Do I Need?

Choose the bag size that best fits your Orchid potting or repotting project. The actual amount needed will vary depending on container size, root-ball size, and whether the bark is being used alone or as part of a custom potting mix.

4 qt: Small Orchid repotting projects or several smaller plants projects
8 qt: Medium Orchid repotting projects or multiple smaller plants projects
30 qt: Larger Orchid repotting projects or multiple smaller plants projects

Why This Organic Orchid Bark Works:

Pine Bark: Provides a loose, structured growing medium that creates air space around orchid roots while allowing excess water to drain.
Chunky Structure: Helps prevent the growing medium from becoming overly dense or compacted around epiphytic root systems.
Versatile Growing Medium: Can be used on its own for orchids or combined with ingredients such as perlite and horticultural charcoal to create a customized orchid potting mix.

Why Choose Soil Sunrise Organic Orchid Potting Bark?

Soil Sunrise Organic Orchid Potting Bark takes the guesswork out of finding a natural, airy growing medium for orchids. Made from pine bark selected for its structure, this ready-to-use orchid media supports drainage and root aeration without requiring conventional potting soil.

Ideal for Phalaenopsis, Cattleya, Dendrobium, Paphiopedilum, Oncidium, and other epiphytic orchids. It can also be incorporated into growing media for bromeliads and other plants that benefit from increased air flow around their roots.

100% All-Natural Bark
Made in the USA

Tip: Orchid bark may be soaked in hot water for approximately 30 minutes before potting to help it absorb moisture more readily.

Note: Individual plant results may vary based on watering, light, temperature, container drainage, and other growing conditions.

Damaged Orders

If your order arrives damaged, please contact our support team as soon as possible. Save the packaging and damaged items so we can review the issue and help determine the best next step.

1. Pre-Soak the Bark
Before repotting, soak the orchid bark in warm water for about 30 minutes. This helps the dry bark absorb moisture more readily after potting.

2. Drain Thoroughly
Pour off the water and allow the bark to drain well. The bark should be moist but not waterlogged before use.

3. Prepare the Orchid
Gently remove the orchid from its existing container and carefully remove old or deteriorated potting media from around the roots. Trim dead or damaged roots if needed.

4. Pot with Fresh Bark
Position the orchid in a clean container with adequate drainage. Gently work the bark around and between the roots, filling the container without tightly packing or compressing the bark.

5. Water & Maintain
Water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain completely. Water again when the bark begins to dry, adjusting frequency based on the orchid variety, container, temperature, humidity, and growing conditions.

I can't speak to the 'easy to spread' point because I don't spread it on anything. I use this product as a soil amendment for my houseplants. It is good quality, no dust, no smell, no mold, no problems, easy to measure, easy to mix in with potting soil and other amendments, and easy to then pot up plants using the amended soil. If I had a complaint, it would be that now and then I find really large pieces of bark in the bag. I'm talking 1/2" by 3/4" pieces of bark. That is a problem while potting up plants, especially in small pots. It doesn't happen often, but when it does it is annoying. Other than that, I am happy with this product, and I would not hesitate to buy it again.

I appreciate that this bark is clean and dry in the bag and that the pieces are reasonably sized so that a few pieces don't take up the whole bag. I've used this brand more than once and potted several orchids and other plants using it. I like to soak the bark in hot water and add other things such as charcoal, perelite, or sphagnum moss, depending on the plant, but this bark had been a good base. They are doing very well.

I make my own chunky potting mix with orchid bark, perlite, and potting mix. I was not expecting the pieces to be so small but it's still a good mix. I won't purchase again because I like the bigger chunks for my homemade mix.

Great product! I wanted to wait to write my review until I could see results myself. This orchard bark is the perfect size for the drainage and health of the soil for my plants. I mix this with one part perlite and one part tropical soil and my plants are thriving!

The delivery was quick and the product is okay overall. I will say that this is a lot smaller in size as far as the texture/consistency than what is pictured. I think these alone would be a bit small for orchids to breathe. It does have a slight smell to it that might be the lime coating, and it's a bit damp even after having the bag open for a few days. No bugs/pests, and good amount for the price.Definitely mix it with others to get the best consistency.

I was very happy with this pack of orchid bark. I was trying to find some for my aroid soil mix and this was the best deal for this quantity by far.The pieces were small but not too small, maybe about a quarter size each, some smaller. It was a little dusty but not bad. I just dumped it into my soil box and mixed it right in.I did inspect it for insects, as I've gotten infested orchid bark before, and there were none on this.It seems like they have decent deals on this pretty often as well. 17$ for 8 quarts of this is fantastic. Would buy again.

I’m sure it’s good quality. Just not sure what I wanted. Don’t look at pictures. The size of bark is very small. More of a shredded bark. I’ll make use of it but not what it shows in pictures

To be honest I was expecting for a bigger size bark chips since it says orchid bark but when I got it and opened the bag I was surprised how small they are. It’s a bit small for orchids in my opinion even though it says orchid bark. But I found it that its absolutely perfect for making your own soil mix for aroids. I make my own so you can see it in the picture I included here. Oh and also it’s in very cute bag you can zip it for some freshness I guess 😃

I looked at all the planting bark on Amazon, and this one had way more than other bags. The secret, I found out, is that they vacuume-packed it! Making it easy to deliver, but you will want to have some extra bags ready when you use some!Orchids like a tight pot, and they won't bloom (i found out) unless they are planted in this bark, no soil. I ran out of bark when i repotted my older orchid plant and had to use some regular soil around the edges of the pot. It's been months now, and no new blooms. So I'm hoping I can make it happy again! Also I have a younger plant that jjust started dropping it's flowers; I'll want to repot that one in a slightly-larger pot when it's dormant.I'll have plenty of "soil" for them both now, for quite a while-at the same price as the bag sold at HD!

Several weeks ago, a friend told me Walmart had orchids for $4. I rushed to buy 3. Of course, the orchids were not in the best shape at that time. I ordered the Soil Sunrise orchid potting bark due to the ratings of buyers and received it the next day. Orchids were trimmed a bit and repotted with this orchid mix. The plants are looking good! Revitalization still taking place.
