Premium Carnivorous Indoor Houseplant Potting Soil Mix

Give your carnivorous plants a growing medium made specifically for their unique needs! Whether you're potting a new plant, repotting an established specimen, or replacing old growing media, Soil Sunrise Carnivorous Plant Potting Soil Mix combines sphagnum peat moss and perlite in a convenient, ready-to-use blend for many popular bog-growing carnivorous plants.

Specially formulated for plants that naturally grow in moist, nutrient-poor environments, this simple two-ingredient blend combines moisture-retaining sphagnum peat moss with lightweight perlite to support moisture balance, drainage, and root aeration. With no added fertilizer or conventional potting soil ingredients, the mix provides a straightforward growing medium for Venus flytraps, Sarracenia pitcher plants, many sundews, and other compatible carnivorous plants.

Key Benefits:

  • Plant-Specific Formula: Specifically formulated for Venus flytraps, Sarracenia pitcher plants, many Drosera sundews, and other carnivorous plants that prefer peat-based growing media.
  • Balanced Drainage & Moisture: Sphagnum peat moss helps maintain the consistently moist conditions many carnivorous plants prefer, while perlite helps create air space and improve drainage throughout the mix.
  • Pre-Blended & Ready to Use: Use this Carnivorous Plant potting soil straight from the bag with no need to purchase, measure, or mix several separate soil components.
  • Simple Two-Ingredient Blend: Contains only sphagnum peat moss and perlite with no added fertilizer.

How Much Carnivorous Plant Potting Soil Do I Need?

Choose the bag size that best fits your Carnivorous Plant repotting project. The actual amount needed will vary depending on container size, root-ball size, and how much existing media is removed.

2 qt: Individual plants or small repotting projects
4 qt: Several small carnivorous plants or medium containers
8 qt: Multiple plants, larger containers, or small bog gardens
12 qt: Larger collections, bog planters, or multiple repotting projects

Why This Carnivorous Plant Soil Blend Works:

Sphagnum Peat Moss: Provides the moisture-retentive, peat-based growing environment preferred by many bog-growing carnivorous plants while helping maintain naturally acidic growing conditions.
Horticultural Perlite: Adds lightweight, porous material that helps create air space around the roots and prevents the peat-based growing medium from becoming overly dense.

Together, these ingredients create a simple growing medium that balances the high moisture needs of many carnivorous plants with the aeration their roots require.

Why Choose Soil Sunrise Carnivorous Plant Potting Soil?

Soil Sunrise Carnivorous Plant Potting Soil Mix takes the guesswork out of choosing and preparing the right growing medium for for many popular carnivorous plants. This ready-to-use, two-ingredient blend combines moisture-retaining sphagnum peat moss with porous perlite — without conventional potting soil, added fertilizer, or the need to purchase and mix multiple soil components yourself.

Ideal for Venus flytraps, Sarracenia pitcher plants, many Drosera sundews, and other carnivorous plants with similar growing-medium requirements.

100% All-Natural Blend
Made in the USA

Important: Most carnivorous plants are sensitive to dissolved minerals. For best results, use distilled water,or clean rainwater.

Tip: Carnivorous plants predominantly originate from very moist “boggy” environments. You may want to consider “bottom-watering” your carnivorous plants by allowing your potted plant to continuously sit in a small saucer of standing water. When mixing your soil for initial use, it is best to thoroughly moisten the dirt mix until wet to the touch before using for planting.

Note: Individual plant results may vary based on watering, light, temperature, container drainage, and other growing conditions.

1. Choose the Right Container
Select a clean container with adequate drainage holes and enough room for the plant’s root system.

2. Add Potting Mix
Place a layer of potting mix in the bottom of the container, adding enough so the plant will sit at the proper height.

3. Position the Plant
Gently remove the plant from its existing container, loosen compacted roots if needed, and place it in the center of the new container.

4. Fill Around the Roots
Add additional potting mix around the root ball, filling the container while leaving a small amount of space below the rim. Gently settle the mix without packing it too tightly.

5. Water & Allow to Drain
Water thoroughly after potting and allow excess water to drain completely. Continue caring for the plant according to its specific watering, light, and growing requirements.

This is a great mix for Venus flytraps as you can see from my pictures. First one was early spring and second one is from November 2nd. It works great my traps loved it and have grown really well. It’s soft and nicely aerated but the perlite seems to rise when it rains. I think perlite just does that as I used a different brand before and the perlite also rose. Definitely wet it before use and be sure to rinse it so you can get the dissolved solids out of it as you can see. Price wise is also great getting 8 quarts for 16-1$ is better than what other companies offer. Highly recommend just bought more will create an update probably next year again if I encounter any issues.

Works great! Repotted my fly trap into 2 pots and after the shock of the move and most of the traps died, my fly traps recovered and thrived to where they are larger than before.

This potting soil mix is extremely hydrophobic; it really resists soaking up water! I purchased this to re-pot my venus flytraps, and immediately noticed that this soil does not resemble the soil that the flytraps came in. I don't think that perlite is a necessary component for venus flytrap growing media. It remains to be seen if the plants will survive, I just couldn't believe that the soil would not readily absorb water. Weird.

I bought this twice because I moved my plants to a bigger pot. I have tried other soils but this one has worked best. My Venus fly trap plants are growing healthy. I will definitely use this again if I need more soil.

Purchased this to re-pot my Nepenthes (PitcherPlant) that is typically very finicky and needs special soil. I waited a few months after the transplant to make sure that it did not harm my plant in any way and it not only survived the transplant, it is thriving! This is not something that any of my local stores carry so I was happy to find it here and what seemed to be a reasonable price. Will buy again when needed.
