Natural Soil Amendment for Houseplants, Gardens & Potting Mixes

Enrich your growing media with Soil Sunrise Organic Worm Castings, a versatile natural soil amendment made from material processed by earthworms. Worm castings can be blended into potting mixes and garden soil to add organic matter and naturally occurring plant nutrients.

Ideal for houseplants, vegetables, herbs, flowers, raised beds, container gardens, seed-starting mixes, and custom potting blends, worm castings are easy to incorporate into existing soil or use as part of your own growing-media recipe.

Key Benefits:

  • Natural Soil Amendment: Adds organic matter and naturally occurring nutrients to soil and potting mixes.
  • Versatile Plant Use: Suitable for houseplants, vegetables, herbs, flowers, container plants, raised beds, and garden soil.
  • Supports Soil Structure: Incorporates fine organic material into growing media to help create a balanced soil environment.
  • Easy to Incorporate: Mix into existing potting soil, garden soil, or custom growing-media blends.
  • Gentle & Convenient: An easy way to add an organic component to plant-growing media without mixing multiple amendments.

What Are Worm Castings?

Worm castings are the naturally processed material produced as earthworms break down organic matter. The finished material has a fine, soil-like texture and contains organic matter along with naturally occurring nutrients.

Because worm castings can be easily blended with other growing-media ingredients, they are commonly used as a component in houseplant soil, garden beds, container mixes, seed-starting media, and custom potting soil recipes.

How to Use Organic Worm Castings:

  1. For potting mixes: Blend worm castings into your preferred potting soil or custom growing medium.
  2. For established container plants: Work a small amount into the upper layer of the growing medium without disturbing the roots.
  3. For garden beds: Mix into existing garden soil before planting or incorporate around established plants.
  4. For custom soil blends: Combine with ingredients such as peat moss, coconut coir, bark, perlite, pumice, or other growing-media components.
  5. Water normally according to the needs of the specific plant after application.

Where Can I Use Worm Castings?

Indoor Houseplants:
Mix into houseplant potting soil to add organic matter and naturally occurring nutrients.

Vegetables & Herbs:
Incorporate into container mixes, raised beds, or garden soil when preparing growing areas.

Flowers & Ornamentals:
Use as part of the growing medium for flowering plants and ornamental container gardens.

Seed Starting & Propagation:
Use as one component of a balanced seed-starting or propagation mix.

Raised Beds & Gardens:
Blend into existing soil as an organic soil amendment before or during the growing season.

Custom Soil Blends:
Combine with other soil ingredients to add an organic component to specialty growing-media recipes.

How Much Worm Castings Do I Need?

Choose the bag size that best fits your potting or repotting projects. The actual amount needed will vary depending on container size, number of cuttings, and how much growing media is needed for each plant.

2 qt: Individual plants, small containers, or occasional soil amendments.
4 qt: Several houseplants, container gardens, or small planting projects.
8 qt: Larger plant collections, raised beds, or frequent soil blending.

I've just ordered a second and larger bag for my garden prep.

I've just ordered a second and larger bag for my garden prep. The first bag came with much of the product in the bottom of the Amazon packaging bag.The 'zip lock' bag of castings doesn't close very well. It's not a good seal, cheap closure zip-lock. Definitely could improve the packaging very easily. My sandwich bags have a better zip-lock closure than this quart size bag.For something this heavy, it needs to have better closure.I've read that many people have complained about this same issue.I hope the company will address the issue.I've not seen any worms from my first bag, but I've read castings are a great fertilizer and repel aphids which I had a big problem with on my tomato plants last year. I hope my crop will do much better this year with the added worm castings.

I have recently started using worm castings and I really think they have improved my plants. I have this product and a worm tea liquid version (brand: The Grow Go) that I add to water for watering. This mixture I’ve been adding to soil for both repotting and also in my seed starting mix. I’ve had a good experience so far with both soils. My plants actually seem way healthier. I would recommend!
