Premium Hoya Indoor Houseplant Potting Soil Mix

Give your Hoya a potting mix made specifically for its growing needs! Whether you're potting a new Hoya, moving a root-bound plant into a larger container, or replacing old, compacted growing media, Soil Sunrise Hoya Plant Potting Soil Mix combines quality ingredients in a convenient, ready-to-use blend for container-grown Hoya plants.

Specially formulated for Hoya varieties that prefer an airy, well-structured growing medium, this blend combines pine mulch and peat moss with perlite and horticultural charcoal to support drainage, aeration, and balanced moisture retention. Natural worm castings add an organic component to the blend, while lime helps balance the formulation, creating a ready-to-use indoor houseplant potting mix straight from the bag.

Key Benefits:

  • Plant-Specific Formula: Specifically formulated for Hoya plants and other container-grown wax plants with similar growing-medium needs.
  • Balanced Drainage & Moisture: Pine mulch and peat moss help provide structure and retain useful moisture, while perlite and horticultural charcoal support drainage and air space throughout the mix.
  • Pre-Blended & Ready to Use: Use this Hoya potting soil straight from the bag with no need to purchase, measure, or mix several separate soil components.
  • Quality Ingredients: Contains pine mulch, peat moss, perlite, horticultural charcoal, worm castings, and lime.

How Much Hoya Potting Soil Do I Need?

Choose the bag size that best fits your Hoya repotting project. The actual amount needed will vary depending on container size, root-ball size, and how much existing media is removed.

8 qt: Ideal for a medium to large Hoya repotting project or multiple smaller Hoya plants.

Why This Hoya Soil Blend Works:

Peat Moss: Help retain useful moisture while contributing organic material and lightweight structure to the growing medium.
Pine Mulch & Horticultural Perlite: Adds organic structure while helping create air space throughout the mix while supporting drainage and root aeration.
Horticultural Charcoal: Adds porous material that contributes to the mix's overall structure and aeration.
Worm Castings: Adds a natural organic component to the blend.
Lime: Helps adjust pH as part of the overall formulation.

1. Choose the Right Container
Select a clean container with adequate drainage holes and enough room for the plant’s root system.

2. Add Potting Mix
Place a layer of potting mix in the bottom of the container, adding enough so the plant will sit at the proper height.

3. Position the Plant
Gently remove the plant from its existing container, loosen compacted roots if needed, and place it in the center of the new container.

4. Fill Around the Roots
Add additional potting mix around the root ball, filling the container while leaving a small amount of space below the rim. Gently settle the mix without packing it too tightly.

5. Water & Allow to Drain
Water thoroughly after potting and allow excess water to drain completely. Continue caring for the plant according to its specific watering, light, and growing requirements.

Got one bag of Hoya mix and one bag of house and tropicals. Opened both bags and they are identical mixes of almost pure dirt. Grabbing a handful and giving it a light squeeze showed that it will compact easily and has extremely poor drainage. The tropical soil smells very very strongly of manure. Not as described for either of them and I’m not happy because I now need to amend the soils. Don’t buy this product

This soil looks like it will be best for cuttings. It is not a chunky mix but seemed to have good drainage. I have transplanted 3 plants in it so far so I will see how well they grow.

I am happy with this mix and it is now my go-to for repotting. After my most recent move I found many of my 'pothos' plants (epipremnums, philodendrons, and scindapsis) were suffering from mealies along with my hoyas, and too many other types to name. They required intense cleaning, scrubbed or new pots, and new soil. This was the brand that came in large enough bags for a reasonable price and with fast delivery. While not all my plants survived the treatment, they are bouncing back and seem happy in this soil. The mix is light and airy making my next move less of a nightmare and there is enough substance the roots are not smothered. It is also a great base to add other items like horticultural pumice or tiny bark to chunk up the mix for other plants. This kept me from having to purchase tons of different types of soil for one massive repotting event, though I would certainly purchase the other mixes provided by this company in future.

I bought this to repot 2 Hoyas.

I bought this to repot 2 Hoyas.I repotted one of them about 4 weeks ago. It is already greener and thriving more than the other one, and I have got to get busy getting that one switched out, too!Hoyas are amazing, and it pays to get them into the best soil.It is a little pricey to me, but I understand why.Drains well, but holds enough moisture. If you've ever drowned a Hoya, you know how awful that is, so yes, drainage is important.I believe this company does it's homework and I will be purchasing again.
